Starting Again
I've started the first read-through of Draft 1 of Olimpia Valley and I can't say it's what I wanted. The problem was I started it without knowing where it was heading, which is something that's never happened to me before. By the time I reached the middle I knew how I wanted it to end, and what each character was going to go through as they reached that end.

So my plan is to read through the entire novel, then go back to the start, note down everything I want to keep and everything I want to delete. I will then start a big re-write of the book. I also want to change the layout/style of the chapters but I haven't quite got everything sorted in my head yet.

It feels very frustrating and disappointing to be in this position. But when I read a chapter I particularly like and get a flood of ideas of how to tidy up those around it, it all suddenly feels worthwhile again.

I think I'm rather disorganised when I write something because I hardly know how it's going to end when I start it. That's probably why I don't like my stuff that much, though. -_-

I always start a book/idea that way, all muddled up and excitedly waiting to see what happens next but by the time I'm working on it full-time I know the basic idea of the book and where it's all heading. It's a shame this one took so long to find it's feet.

My teacher told us last week that oftentimes the last chapter written is the first. I can see how that would be the case because you don't know what will happen until after. She also said not to map out writing before hand because it gives you too many restrictions. Just giving you a few tips from my course :)

Thanks Hils :)

I don't map out the books very much until I'm in the swing of it, cos the characters do all the work for me, I just write what they tell me. But with this book the characters were so messed up they didn't know what the hell was going on hehe!
